An industry association of 200+ member companies, MEF has introduced the MEF 3.0 Transformational Global Services Framework for defining, delivering, and certifying agile, assured, and orchestrated services across a global ecosystem of automated networks. MEF 3.0 services are designed to provide an on-demand, cloud-centric experience with user- and application-directed control over network resources and service capabilities. MEF 3.0 services are delivered over automated, virtualized, and interconnected networks powered by LSO (Lifecycle Service Orchestration), SDN, and NFV.

MEF 3.0 is comprised of four major elements:

  • Standardized, Orchestrated Services. MEF 3.0 services redefine innovation by providing an on-demand, cloud-centric experience with unprecedented user- and application-directed control over network resources and service capabilities. The MEF 3.0 service family includes dynamic SD-WAN, Carrier Ethernet, Optical Transport, IP, and security services that will be orchestrated over programmable networks using LSO APIs.
  • Open LSO APIs. MEF’s LSO Reference Architecture guides agile development of standardized LSO APIs that enable end-to-end automation of MEF 3.0 services across multiple providers and over multiple network technology domains. MEF is progressing initiatives for multiple LSO interface reference points that facilitate not only service provider transformation and federation, but will also extend service orchestration to enterprise customers, cloud players, and 5G mobile networks for a seamless on-demand, application-aware networking experience.
  • Service, Technology & Professional Certifications. MEF’s service, technology, and professional certification programs are designed to accelerate availability and adoption of MEF 3.0 solutions that comply with the highest industry standards for performance, assurance, and agility. MEF’s service and technology certification programs include:  MEF 3.0 SD-WAN, MEF 3.0 CE, and MEF 3.0 LSO Sonata.  Professional certifications include: MEF SD-WAN Certified Professional (MEF-SDCP), MEF Carrier Ethernet Certified Professional (MEF-CECP), MEF SDN/NFV Certified Professional (MEF-SNCP), and MEF Network Foundations Certified Professional (MEF-NF).
  • Expanded Community Collaboration. MEF is working with many of the world’s leading service and technology providers, open source projects, standards associations, and enterprises to realize a shared vision of dynamic services orchestrated across automated networks.
